Telavi Wine Tour

Trip to Sagarejo. We will visit St. Nino Monastery (VI c). Bodbe Monastery is situated in 2 km away from Sighnaghi. It is here that St. Nino, the Enlightener of Georgia, has settled down on the hillside. Living ascetically, she preached Christianity and converted inhabitants into Orthodox Christians. The very place where St. Nino was buried has become a spot for building the church. Later on St. Nino Nunnery was founded there. There is a holy spring and a baptistery and the staircases leading to them near the mountain foot on which monastery is located. After delicious breakfast, we will be welcomed in 300 years old ancient wine cellar. The indisputable advantage of making wine in clay kvevri (jug), preserved by burying it deep in the ground, is that the temperature in which wine is stored stays virtually unchanged during the winter and summer. After all, kvevri is not just a vessel for storing the wine; it is a fundamental part of technical process of drink making. You will be invited for a glass of splendid Georgian wine. Kakheti, situated in the East of the country, is a recognized pearl of Georgia, referred to as the cradle of Georgian wine. Variety of unique grapes is cultivated here: Kindzmarauli, Manavi, and Saperavi.
