Samtskhe - Javakheti is a mountainous region, broken by ravines, springs, and lakes, as well as large and fast moving rivers. There are very few large flatlands in Samtskhe and the landscape is complex, compose of flat terraces, hills and volcanic mountains. The main rivers of Samtskhe are the Chorokhi ant the Mtkvari.

Samtskhe - javakheti is one of the oldest parts of Georgia. Terraces - On the steep slopes of the Samtskhe - Javakheti hills you will find unique long terraces where fruit gardens are vineyards used to flourish. Wine was made here in very ancient times, testified to by unearthed fossilized grape leaves, seeds and stems as well as wine presses cut in stone.
